Sleep Out does not aim to replicate homelessness, but rather provides an opportunity for those taking part to learn more of the stark reality faced by thousands of young people each year, whilst also raising funds for Centrepoint’s vital services. By sleeping out, Explorers will widen their awareness of youth homelessness whilst exercising their fundraising skills.

Please ensure you make it clear that rough sleeping is not the most common cause of homelessness - people often end up staying in

  • Identify need - learn about homelessness (use resources from Shelter and the Programme planner)
  • Plan action - use this toolkit to plan your sleepout or sign up to an organised sleepout
  • Take action - take part in your sleepout
  • Tell the world - tell the world what you have done (see ideas from Shelter)
  • Learn & make more change - maybe run activities for another section or collect things for a food bank (see ideas from Shelter)

Why do a sleepout?
Holding a Sleep Out is a perfect way to involve both leaders and young people in organising, implementing, campaigning and fundraising activities. The more involved staff and students are, the more enjoyable and fulfilling an experience it will be.

You could also fundraise for another local charity e.g. Step by Step in Aldershot, who also organise a sleepout every November,
